Chelsea Green faced disappointment on WWE Smackdown as she lost the championship she had just claimed. This setback followed her earlier complaints about missing Wrestlemania 41 while being a titleholder.
During the third match of the post-Wrestlemania 41 WWE Smackdown, Zelina Vega triumphed over Chelsea Green (c) to seize the Women’s United States Championship. This title bout occurred just a week after Vega had previously pinned Green in a non-title match.
Despite the presence of her allies, Piper Niven and Alba Fyre, who were there to support her after being banned from ringside in a previous match, Vega managed to secure her victory.
With the referee distracted, Fyre and Niven attempted to weaken Vega, allowing Green to execute an enzuigiri and set up for her finisher, the Unprettier. However, Vega countered with a backstabber.
The interference from Fyre and Niven became excessive, leading to their ejection by the referee. Amid the ensuing chaos, Vega capitalized on the moment, delivering the Code Red finisher to secure the pinfall victory and claim the title. Following her win, Vega celebrated on the entrance ramp while Niven and Fyre rushed to check on Green.
Zelina Vega's Historic Win
This victory on WWE Smackdown marks Zelina Vega's first reign as a singles champion since her two stints with WWE beginning in 2017. Previously, she held the Women’s Tag Team Championship with Carmella and won the 2021 Queen of the Ring tournament. Chelsea Green's reign ended after 132 days, having won the inaugural title in a tournament finale at Saturday Night's Main Event in December 2024.
Vega has long aspired to establish herself as a legitimate singles competitor, and this championship win is a significant step toward achieving that goal. Interestingly, her victory coincided with the return of her husband, Aleister Black, to the company during the same WWE Smackdown episode. Prior to this match, Vega had secured two consecutive victories over Green, the inaugural women’s US Champion.
